A great day for a parade …

This past weekend was our itty bitty towns festival.  Little towns have those I guess.  Well big towns do as well, but I don’t know that they are quite as special as a small town one.   Much time and effort goes into the festivals and they bring in people that aren’t normally roaming the streets of an itty bitty town.

Part of the festivities is a parade on Saturday morning.  Last year after the parade someone had a great idea to have our church represented with a float next year.  So the plan was made and before we knew it the time for the parade was upon us.

Turns out that even a little parade turns out to be a lot of work.  The prep started weeks ago and the day of the parade the big chore was to make the float look like a float.  The signs were done, the handouts were ready, and the ballons picked up.

We made 432 handouts.

A bag of microwave popcorn with some church info … I thought they turned out great.  Many hands helped make them.   Kids handed them out to the crowds.  They had to be pretty selective since Loren estimated about 1200 people along the parade route.

To begin with in the morning it was just Loren, Evelyn and I there to make the float “happen”.  Thankfully near the end of the process more hands were there and we were ready to go.

For the record, Evelyn wasn’t too much help.  Cute, but she didn’t blow up even one balloon.

We rode the float and the kids handed out the popcorn and we were done.

It was a beautiful day and though I voted “no” on doing this float over a year ago, the time and energy we put into it was just fine in the end and it was nice to be a part of the day.   I am however hoping that even more hands are involved next year.

I will close this with my favorite parade picture of the day.

Have a great day!
